Join financial advisor Shawn Cowls and CPA Antony Hom for an evening to discuss building a strong financial future for lesbian and gay couples. We'll talk about the implications of marriage in New York as well as other financial basics, including information about joint assets, protecting our spouses and children, and tax filing as a gay household.
Shawn Cowls has spent the past two decades in the insurance and financial services industry. He has worked for a number of insurance companies as an actuary and a consultant and currently is in his own practice helping individuals and small business implement financial solutions to their insurance and investing needs. He is a member of the Planning Center for Professionals, and is a registered representative of the brokerage firm Hornor, Townsend, and Kent (Member NASD/SIPC). He holds a BA in Mathematics from Princeton University.
Antony Hom is a Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst, providing tax accounting and financial management and consulting services to small businesses and self-employed individuals. He has provided "CFO/ Controller" services to select clients, helping them with establishing their internal controls and financial reporting systems, budgeting, forecasting and planning needs. Prior to establishing WYH Advisors, he served as a financial and business controller at Citigroup (corporate financial control including regulatory filings and expense management and control in the credit card business) and Merrill Lynch (corporate level planning and a developed model for forecasting and analyzing net interest revenue) and was an auditor and tax accountant with one of the major public accounting firms. He holds a Masters in Business Administration from the Stern School at New York University and Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
