In 2000, the Mount Holyoke Lesbian Alumnae Network (LAN) set out to raise a $25,000 endowment for the Jolene Fund. The fund will provide financial assistance to MHC students who lose support from their families for "coming out" as lesbian or bisexual or for similar circumstances involving sexual orientation. Though the deadline for raising the endowment was January 2004, the $25,000 goal has already been exceeded. "Our hope is that no Mount Holyoke student will ever again have to leave the College because of her sexual orientation," said cocoordinators Nicki Nicolo '76 and Donna J. Albino '83.
