HERE'S THE INFO FROM CLARO:
On Friday May 20, 2011, Connecticut Latina/os Achieving Rights and Opportunities Inc (CLARO) will hold its Second Red Carpet Rainbow Ball to celebrate its achievements an to honor three individuals whose work and efforts have combated homophobia and touched the lives of Latino/as who are members of the Latino lesbian, gay bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex (LGBTQI) community. These year’s honorees are Bessy Reyna, Janis Astor Del Valle and Andrew McDonald.
The Red carpet Gala starts at 6:30 PM at The Pond House, located on the beautiful grounds of Elizabeth Park, 1555 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford, CT. The Gala offers a five-course meal, live music with Lorena Garay and dancing to a DJ. Tickets cost $75.00 per person.
CLARO is a tax-exempt volunteer organization dedicated to advocacy and education on behalf of Latina/os LGBTQI individuals and the larger Latino community. We are embarking on a strategic plan to clarify CLARO’s unique role whose mission centers primarily on addressing sexism, homophobia and racism, as it impacts Latino/as and others in the LGBTQI community. CLARO was a major cosponsor of Transplantations, a play about a Latina’s journey towards self-affirmation as a Puerto Rican and as a lesbian. CLARO was the primary sponsor of Becoming Joaquin, about a Latino transgender man struggling for the acceptance of his immediate family. Both plays sold to capacity audiences at the Hartford Stage.
Shortly we will conduct a community assessment of how Latinos/as view the Latino LGBTQI community to inform and guide CLARO in its strategic plan. We also hope to initiate planning a conference for Latino/a families with LGTBQI members who may offer or need support.
In the past As in last year, The Gala will be a great deal of fun. Join us. Eat well, laugh, dance, enjoy the company of friends and pay tribute to the accomplishments of our honorees.
Please purchase your ticket to CLARO’s Second Red Carpet Rainbow Ball and help and invite others to attend the event.
Send your check to CLARO, Inc. Attention Charlie Ortiz, 80 Cedar Street, Hartford CT 06106. For more information call 860- 841-2345 or 860-791-9955. Feel free to email us at

We look forward to seeing you at the Pond House on Friday, May 20 at 6:30 PM. Don’t miss it.
Sincerely,
Charlie Ortiz
