Re Reunion Companions

Yesterday I received my reunion letter, and I was appalled at what I read. Both the "intention postcard" and the letter from the chairman said the same thing: "I plan/hope to attend; my husband plans/hopes to attend; husbands are welcome."

The implications of these sentences are staggering. Do we expect a sister alumna to be only married or single with no special person with whom she would like to share reunion? Why is there no mention of a friend or live-in (of either sex)? I suggest that the word "husband" be deleted and "companion," which makes no assumptions of sex or status of a person beyond companionship with another and is more applicable to any pair-relationship into which an alumna might enter, be substituted.
