In just 25 years, LGBTQ people have shifted from rioting against the vitriol of the religious right and the AIDS crisis, to reveling in same-sex marriage lobbies, recognition of mass gay teen suicides, and the entertainment event of The L Word.

Is life then really better for urban lesbians and queer women since the late 20th century?

The project and book Queer New York takes up these questions and explains how lesbians and queer women, their spaces, and their culture survive and thrive today.
